Story of the World: Ancient times ~ Greece!~

We have been working our way through our history text,  Story of the World: Ancient Times. My girls seem to really like the lessons but I worried that we were moving too fast for them and they were not retaining a lot of the knowledge. So we decided to pause our studies and do an in depth research project on our last subject covered, Greece.

I pulled up a few research options on the computer and let the girls pick their own research areas. I did specify that they had to chose 5 areas of ancient Greek life. They chose: Art and architecture, People, Culture, Olympics, and Wars.

While my oldest (9) was doing the majority of the reading and writing my second daughter (7) went through our SOTW handouts and found any that pertained to Greece and their chosen research topics.

Once all the research was done it was time for some fun stuff. I made a simple worksheet for them using a word document. I just did a simple box on the top for their picture and several lines below for their writing.

The girls cut out their SOTW handout figures and got to work pasting, coloring, and writing on their research board.
.
I may be a bit biased but I think they did an amazing job!
Of course no true research week would be complete without a themed "feast". For appetizers we had olives, feta, cucumbers, and pita wedges. For the main course we had gyros with flat bread, yogurt sauce, and cucumbers. Of course since we couldn't drink wine we had some sparkling grape juice, which I was surprised wasn't a favorite for the majority of the kids. I assumed it would be a bigger hit then it was. For dessert we had homemade baklava. I assumed the kid would hate it but it was the biggest hit of the entire night. Not a crumb was left!
We had so much fun exploring ancient Greece that I am already looking forward to our next research project.......India! Curry anyone?!
